Child Labour
According to the Uganda National Housing Survey (2005/06), an estimated 2,5 million children, aged 7-14 years, which are about 38% of that group are involved in an economic activity.
This totally includes 1,4 million children under the age of 12 years. Further still , over 1,7 million 5-17 year-olds (17%) of the children in Uganda are engaged in child labor as defined by legislation.
It is upon this background that IFF believes all child laborers as any other children deserve to be given an opportunity to develop physically and socially.
In implementing the program, IFF uses four main strategies namely, prevention of vulnerable children from entering child labor, withdrawal from worst forms of child labor, development of social protection systems to provide safety nets for vulnerable children and lastly advocacy and awareness rising to enable enactment of an ordinance against child labor in rural areas of Uganda.
